General President Booker Statement on NLRB

President Trump’s termination of National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo and board member Gwynne Wilcox has left workers without a voice. The NLRB, a critical forum for protecting workers rights, is now unable to function.

LIUNA General President Brent Booker urges the Administration to fill these vacancies with leaders who will put workers and their families FIRST—not corporate interests.

About the NLRB:

If workers are certified as a union by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and get recognition by their employer, they have the right to collectively bargain a contract.

  • The NLRB was created in 1935 to help shift the balance of power between labor and capital and to protect the organizing rights of workers

  • With the start of the NLRB, Our union became a legally recognized entity under U.S. law, which comes with a number of rights and responsibilities

  • The NLRB filing and election process are part of the overall unionization process - this is how we organize construction workers!

The Labor Board can have the power to put workers first, to make sure the working class and the middle class have a fighting chance to get ahead, and to balance excessive power on Wall Street.
